In 1964, an attractively designed coupé specially developed for young drivers was presented to the public at the World Expo in New York. This sporty and inexpensive Ford Mustang, the progenitor of the "Pony Cars", was available from April '64 and in only half a year Ford sold an incredible 680,000 of it. In 1965 a high performance street version of the Mustang, the GT 350, built by Carroll Shelby, appeared with a 4.7 litre V8 engine. The car rental company Hertz ordered 1000 units of the GT 350 H (H stands for Hertz) in black with golden decorative stripes, in order to be able to rent "also racing cars" to customers who very quickly liked the 306 hp exceptional Mustang.
