Vossloh Locomotives is one of the European market leaders in the construction of diesel locomotives. It is approved in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg (CFL 1100 series) and France. With SBB Cargo, they will carry the model series designation on 842. Some locomotives were rented in 2006 by the then Railion Germany (now DB Cargo Germany) to test their suitability as a possible successor of the series 290/294. They received serial number 261 for this purpose, but these numbers were not written to the vehicles.
