This rechargeable lithium battery was developed for the Raspberry Pi 5 to supply power to the integrated real-time clock (RTC) when the mains power supply is interrupted.
This battery comes with a compatible connector for the special backup battery connector on the Raspberry Pi board (marked "BAT" next to the USB-C connector). The power management IC used on the Raspberry Pi 5 integrates a real-time clock and a charging circuit for these button cells, which can supply the watch with power while the mains power supply is interrupted, and also charges the battery when the power supply is restored.
The battery is supplied with a double-sided adhesive pad to attach it to the inside of a case or another suitable location.
