In addition to all features of the previous board, the MEGA now uses an ATMega16U2 instead of the Atmega8U2 chip. This enables faster transfer rates and more memory. There are no drivers for Linux or Mac (inf file required for Windows and included in the Arduino IDE), and the ability to show the Uno like a keyboard, mouse, joystick etc.
The MEGA2560 R3 now also has SDA and SCL pins besides the AREF. Also, there are two new pins near the reset pin. One of them is an IOREF, which allows the shields to take over the voltage of the board.
