The Ixxat CAN/FD repeater standard with two CAN/CAN FD interfaces is used for the galvanic separation of two segments of a CAN network and offers very high galvanic isolation of up to 5 kV, making it also suitable for demanding applications. It can be used for increasing the load capacity of the CAN bus with nodes, for the physical coupling of CAN/CAN FD bus systems or for inserting a galvanic separation.
The repeater provides the necessary flexibility to optimize the structure of CAN/CAN FD networks and to free CAN networks from the restriction to the bus structure. Integrated bus terminating resistors prevent reflections at the cable ends and ensure optimum communication.
As an advantageous feature, the CAN repeater separates a defective segment from the rest of the network, allowing the remaining network to continue working. Once the fault has been corrected, the segment is automatically reconnected to the network.
The galvanic separation is designed for both the CAN/CAN FD segments and the supply voltage and reliably increases the protection of the device against damage to the electronics by voltage peaks.
