Description
In order to simplify and rationalize their passenger transport, in 1932 the Nordhausen-Wernigor Eisenbahngesellschaft (NWE) ordered a four-axle diesel rail car at the Wismar A. G. traction car and wagon factory, which received a 400 hp MAN diesel engine and was put into service as T 1. The NWE was very satisfied with the vehicle, which is up to 60 km/h, and was therefore ordered with two additional rail cars of this type, which were used on the NWE network under the operating numbers T2 and T3 from 1935.They had a slightly different structure. They had a more powerful engine with a capacity of 520 hp to carry luggage space instead of a passenger compartment and to carry higher towing loads.After the foundation of the GDR in 1949, the NWE was expropriated and integrated into the newly developed Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR). The vehicles were redrawn to the number plan valid at the DR and lost the original red color, as they were painted in beige-red in accordance with the color scheme valid at the state railway.
Our LGB model represents the former NWE T3, which was then led as VT 137 566 at the DR. The railcar was used in the DR as track maintenance vehicle as well as freight tow vehicles.
