Overview

The steering wheel remote control adapter function makes it possible to retain the original steering wheel remote control when replacing the car radio and thus ensures the usual driving comfort.
The CAN bus interface translates signals between the vehicle bus and the retrofit audio system and simplifies integration into digital vehicle communication networks. Compatibility with 2-DIN Audio 20 OEM devices and the audio gateway allows seamless connectivity to existing infotainment modules and reduces installation time. Harman Kardon OEM sound systems support enables integration without changing the factory speaker control and maintains the original audio signal distribution.

Description

This Hi-Fi adapter converts steering wheel remote control signals and CAN bus messages for use with retrofit or replacement audio systems in certain Mercedes models. It is integrated into the vehicle's audio gateway cable and connects the factory-made 2-DIN Audio 20 car radio (or equivalent) to the steering wheel remote control inputs. Manufacturer-specific signals are translated into a format understandable by compatible devices. The installation includes connecting the adapter to the existing wiring harnesses and the CAN network, so that the car radio and the original sound system can continue to communicate with each other. Typically, the adapter is used for car radio upgrades if the factory controls and the audio signal distribution are to be retained, especially in vehicles with audio gateway or manufacturer-specific sound systems.
