Overview

The steering wheel remote control interface enables the maintenance of the original steering wheel remote control while replacing the car radio and thus the usual operating comfort in the vehicle. The compatibility with vehicle audio gateways permits the integration into factory-made bus systems and enables the signal transmission between retrofit car radios and vehicle electronics. Both 1-DIN and 2-DIN factory radios are supported to simplify installation in dashboard configurations without additional wiring harness changes. The system is designed for various Mercedes, Smart and VW platforms, in order to reduce vehicle-specific wiring expenditure in retrofitting projects.

Description

This car radio adapter converts the steering wheel remote control signals and the communication with the audio gateway into a format that can be used by retrofitted car radios. It is installed behind the dashboard and connects to the vehicle's factory wiring harness and audio gateway to translate steering wheel control commands into standard steering wheel remote control signals for compatible radios. Typically, it is connected to original 1-DIN or 2-DIN radios and the adapter is integrated in the car radio harness. This retains original functions such as steering wheel remote control when replacing the factory system in a large number of Mercedes, Smart and VW vehicles, including vans and cars.
