The Unicable2 LNB allows installations with up to 32 satellite receivers over a single cable, using the EN50494/EN50607 protocols, giving access to an unlimited number of transponders (also known as "dynamic" mode). Alternatively, the LNB can be configured to provide a fixed transponder to IF frequency assignment (also known as "static" mode). In this way, an unlimited number of receivers can be connected to the LNB that can be supplied with up to 32 transponders (or more, depending on the bandwidth of the desired transponders) by digital channel stacking technology.
Digital channel stacking technology uses fast broadband analog to digital converters and digital signal processing to select the desired transponder channels, convert them and then bundle them as L-band signals at the unicable output. The Unicable2 LNB offers full channel selection flexibility and supports many more set-top boxes over existing cabling, resulting in lower costs and simplified installation at the end user. The static mode makes it possible to connect an unlimited number of receivers to the LNB, and thus a satellite distribution for residential complexes, significantly cheaper and easier to realize than ever before. The operating mode (dynamic or static), signal level, channel bandwidth, number of user bands, intermediate frequencies and antenna adjustment mode can be configured and updated locally using a programmer*.
The LNB is powered by a connected STB or by an external power supply and the Power Inserter if the connected STB cannot provide sufficient power. The Unicable2 LNB is downward compatible and conforms to the EN50494 and EN50607 standards. The communication between the multiswitch and the connected unicablereceivers is done according to EN50494 and/or EN50607 and can be defined per user band. This allows a seamless integration into installations consisting of only EN50494-compatible PVRs or a mix of EN50494/EN50607-compatible PVRs and HGWs of the next generation.
