Description
In 1977 Lotus introduced a revolutionary ground effect car with a sleek monocoque chassis with the 78 type. A decisive feature of the design was the wide side boxes, which were formed inside like inverted aircraft wings. During the 1978 season, the advanced type 79 was introduced. The fuel tanks were placed behind the cockpit and the rear suspension had effective internal dampers.
In 1978, Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson were deployed as pilots. The successes did not allow for long: Andretti won 5 wins, winning the drivers' championship. Peterson added another victory to secure the team's construction title. The 79 type strongly influenced later F1 machines and its overwhelming speed as well as its graceful design and its black finish brought him the nickname "Black Beauty".
The kit in scale 1:20 imitates the monocoque chassis, the suspension as well as the engine of the Lotus type 79 in detail. The front and rear vehicle panels can be removed after assembly to view the engine and cockpit section.
