3-level enabling switches are used in situations where people are working in dangerous zones; e.g to perform maintenance or programming work on robots. To release the machine, the operator keeps the enabling switch pressed to 2nd level. In the case of an emergency two reactions of the operator are possible: either he can release the switch (level 1) or he presses it firmly through (step 3). In the case of 3-level enabling switches, both will result in immediate machine switch-off. The special design of the switching mechanism ensures that the contacts do not close when resetting from level 3 via level 2 to level 1. The new series of HE 3-level enabling switches from IDEC is available in various models. Handle switch HE1G includes two switches (normally-open) which are operated using a common actuator and integrated in the handle.
