Description

The Netherlands has many special features. And that also applies to the railways in our neighboring country. At an early stage, they put a lot of emphasis on their own vehicle creations, which often made unusual designs not only speak of themselves in their home country. When the Dutch National Railways NS wanted to modernize their intercity traffic in the 1970s, they developed, together with the German wagon factory Talbot, a completely unusual train set with panorama driver's cabs over the wagon transitions. This gave the ICM, as the NS called its new fittings, a really massive appearance. And since one could reach the next unit at the ends of the head, the modern but original vehicles were called "Koploper". The "Koploper" built in 144 soon marked modern intercity traffic in the Netherlands. When Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was connected to the rail network in 1986, the NS painted two "coplopers" in the colors of the two national airlines. ICM-4011 got the outfit of the Royal Dutch airline KLM. Because of the bullish head shape this train reminded the famous jumbo jets. ICM 4012 then drove through the country in the white-red Martinair design and also aroused great attention - as a sleek jetliner on tracks.
