Description

The IMU Brick 2.0 is the successor of the IMU Brick with higher resolution sensors, easier calibration, additional continuous self-calibration and two orders of magnitude better accuracy.
The IMU Brick 2.0 is equipped with a 3-axis accelerometer, magnetic field sensor (compass) and gyroscope each and operates as a USB inertial sensor. It can measure 9 degrees of freedom and calculates quaternions as well as independent yaw, roll and pitch angles. It is a complete Attitude and Heading Reference System.
The API, available for many programming languages, allows access to the calculated data as well as to the acceleration, magnetic field and angular velocities for the three axes. If the quaternion representation is used, the IMU brick gimbal lock is free (unlike the Euler angle representation).
Two connectors can be used to connect bricklets that extend the capabilities of the brick. As an example a GPS Bricklet can be connected to determine position data.
The IMU Brick 2.0 can also be used with other bricks in a stack. For example, an additional Master Brick with Master Extensions can be used to replace the USB connection with other wired interfaces (RS485, Ethernet) or wireless interfaces (WLAN).

First Test
To test an IMU Brick 2.0, Brick Daemon and Brick Viewer must be installed first. Brick Daemon works as a proxy between the USB interface of the bricks and the API bindings. Brick Viewer can connect to Brick Daemon, displays information about the connected bricks and bricklets and allows you to test them.
If the brick is connected to the PC via USB, a new tab called "IMU Brick 2.0" should appear in the Brick Viewer a moment later. Select this tab.
All available IMU Brick 2.0 data will be displayed. If the IMU Brick 2.0 is held as shown and then the "Save Orientation" button is clicked, the movements of the IMU Brick should be reflected accordingly in the Brick Viewer.
Now you can write your own program. The Programming Interface section lists the IMU Brick 2.0 API and examples in various programming languages.

Calibration
The IMU Brick 2.0 performs self-calibration throughout. It is not necessary to perform a separate calibration by hand. The IMU can store the calibration data to speed up self-calibration after a restart. This calibration data is already set during production.
Click the "Calibration" button in the Brick Viewer to view the current state of the continuous self-calibration. The stored calibration data can also be updated in this dialog.
