Steam locomotive 86 1617 of the German State Railroad.
From 1928 to 1943, almost all German locomotive factories delivered a total of 775 machines of this series to the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. The 1,000 PS locomotives were designed for a speed of 70–80 km/h, making them suitable for both main applications of the "branch line" and main and feed routes. At the beginning of the 1950s, there were still 164 locomotives of the 86 series available in the GDR. In 1970, 162 machines received an EDP-compliant operating number, and the withdrawal took place from 1973.
