Description

For shift work in car workshops and container systems, for converting locomotives without own power or for moving electric locomotives without traction lines in railway works, the Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnik Werke (LEW) in Hennigsdorf delivered the first series of a battery-towing vehicle based on the proven mining locomotive EL8 to the Deutsche Reichsbahn from 1966 onwards. Due to the low cost of acquisition, low maintenance and zero-emission operation, the small shunters could and can be used universally and proved and proven well. Up to 1990 506 vehicles were built. After the ASF was basic equipment in all railway operations and maintenance works of the German Railways in the beginning and in many industrial operations in East Germany, the small shunter after the foundation of Deutsche Bahn AG can also be found in their large plants all over Germany. Even in ICE maintenance plants, the ASF is now available, including with classic ICE coloring. With the closure of DB plants or industrial plants many found a new application area in other plant locations, at private railways or railway clubs, only a few ASF were scrapped so far.
