Description
The VT18.16 are high-quality multiple units and were especially designed for international use. They were built from 1963 by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz. The vehicles were used in international traffic to Scandinavia, Austria and Czechoslovakia. The train route was known as Vindobona via Prague to Vienna. Due to the length of the railway ferries, trains to and from Scandinavia only operate with two intermediate wagons. The last time SVT of this series traveled to Vienna as Vindobona in 1979 – here the compensation payments of ÖBB were the reason because they no longer had suitable railcars for the regular use of this connection. The last international operations were carried to Karlovy Vary in the early 1980s as Karlex and Karola.
