PTC resistor
In contrast to plastic-based PTC's, the ceramic PTC thermistor reverts to its initial resistance value even after often cools down.
They respond to impermissibly high currents and protect when predefined temperature limits are exceeded; the power loss absorbed by the entire circuit is limited by increasing the resistance and reducing the current to a harmless residual value.
The PTC thermistor is not replaced, but performs its protection function immediately after a short cooling down time.
