Overview

The Arduino Ethernet Shield 2 is available in two versions: One with (A000025) and one without (A000024) PoE (power over Ethernet). The Shields are designed to integrate a fast Internet connection into Arduino board designs. Other shields can be stacked directly onto the Ethernet Shield, which was designed to provide optimal integration of functionality into your designs. Both shields are equipped with the Ethernet chip W5500 from Wiznet, which provides an IP stack to support TCP and UDP protocols. The W5500 also supports up to 8 slot connections simultaneously.

Description

Version 2 has a built-in microSD card slot as opposed to standard-size SD cards. The new version 2 also offers greater compatibility with Arduino boards – the previous version did not support the Mega board.

What was ich needed to use the version 2 shield?

All was needed was an Arduino board, a 5 V power supply (this comes from the Arduino board), an Ethernet controller, 10/100 Mbit connection speed and a connection to an Arduino via an SPI connection.
