The Calliope mini is a microcontroller used as a teaching tool in the school education of children from the third grade, usually under the supervision of adults.
The Calliope mini shows that all can code - and with a lot of fun. The entry is easy, so that children, teachers and parents can start without any prior knowledge. From the first self-programd flashing via self-propelled robots to wireless communicating Calliope mini-swarms: With a few clicks, on a connected computer, own programs can be designed for the microprocessor, which bring the Calliope mini to life.
THE CALLIOPE MINI
In addition to 25 red and one RGB LED and two programmable buttons, the board contains a combined position sensor with motion sensor and compass as well as a radio module with which Calliope mini can communicate with other Calliope mini. The board can be programd via laptop or computer using free editors, e.g. Open Roberta Lab from the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. You can also transfer programs you create yourself wirelessly via app. The board is delivered with five pre-installed start programs – and 25 more on the flash memory – whose operation is explained in a small accompanying booklet and under calliope.cc/start. In addition, battery holders with high-quality batteries and a USB cable are included for connection to the computer.
CALLIOPE MINI STARTER BOX
The delivery scope of the Calliope mini starter box consists of a board itself together with accessories:
- Battery holder with batteries
- USB cable
- Booklet for the first computer-independant applications and one with programming examples
- Rubber band (for attaching the battery compartment)
- Stickers.

The Calliope mini is a teaching tool that is mainly used under the supervision of adults in school. The Calliope mini has been tested positively on the basis of the product safety standard EN60950-1 or EN62368-1.
Please note the following information:
The USB connection may only be connected to a computer. When not in use, always disconnect from the computer. The Calliope mini should never be operated simultaneously with USB and battery! When the mini is connected to the computer, the battery holder must not be connected to the mini or the battery holder must be switched off (switch to "off")! In battery operation, the Calliope mini may only be operated with batteries of type AAA or LR03 (battery compartment). The voltage applied to the Calliope mini must never exceed 3.3 volts.
When not in use, always switch off the battery holder ("off"), when using battery holders without on/off switch, please remove the batteries and separate the battery holder from the mini. The external motor support may only be operated with a 9V battery (or 6LR61).
Operation with accumulators is not permitted. In operation, only touch the outer ends and the buttons. Small parts must be kept away from small children.
Notes on connecting external electronic components:
- 5 mA maximum per connection
- 15 mA maximum load (all connections together)
- 100 mA maximum when connected to edge contacts (+/-), feed of max. 3.3V
- when connecting an LED, please use a resistor with at least 220Ω.
- If the Calliope mini gets hot, disconnect it immediately from the power supply and do not use it again. If you have any problems with the Calliope mini, please contact us at: service@calliope.cc
