Description

The IXXAT CME/PN is a powerful and easy-to-configure gateway for connecting CANopen devices and networks to PROFINET. The gateway enables data exchange in both directions and allows, among other things, the integration of existing, cost-effective CANopen nodes in PROFINET networks as well as the provision of data from PROFINET systems for use in CANopen networks.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The gateway operates on the PROFINET side as an IO device and exchanges the data via slots and sub-slots. On the CANopen side, the device acts as a CANopen NMT master with PDO and SDO support.

The gateway configuration is done via the IXXAT configuration tool, which is included free of charge in the delivery. The configuration tool creates a CDC configuration file for the CANopen network and a GSDML file for PROFINET. The CANopen-side configuration is based on EDS files. The GSDML file enables the gateway to be easily integrated into a PROFINET network and the gateway to respond from a PLC program. The gateway is represented as a single I/O device. All data on the CANopen page that is exchanged with the PROFINET network via the gateway are defined in the GSDML file as variables with variable names, data size and data direction. This approach, which includes both sides of the gateway in configuration, is unique to date and greatly simplifies configuration.

The gateway has an integrated 2-port switch was designed to allow easy integration into line topologies. The device configuration and firmware update is done via the USB 2.0 interface of the gateway or by remote access via the Ethernet interface.
