The RPI COMPUTE MODULE is a Computer Module 1. It is a Raspberry Pi with a more flexible form factor for industrial applications. The Compute Module uses the interior of the Raspberry Pi (processor BCM2835 and 512MB RAM) as well as a 4GB eMMC flash module (equivalent to an SD card on the RPi). These components are built into a compact circuit board of only 67.6x30mm that fits into a standard DDR2 SODIMM connector, the same connector type used for laptop memory. The flash memory is directly connected to the processor on the board, the remaining processor interfaces are available through the connector pins for custom functions. Users can take advantage of the full flexibility of the BCM2835-SoC, because compared to Raspberry Pi there are many more GPIOs and interfaces available. The design integration of the Compute Module into a user-side system is relatively easy, as all the difficult parts are executed on the module.
